Use this as a diagnostic tool, not a judgement. Every gap you uncover is an opportunity. Work through each pillar honestly: these questions are designed to surface the blind spots the people you serve can already sense. Use the notes boxes to capture what comes up.

Pillar 01 Why Find Your Purpose

Your WHY is the foundation everything else is built on. Without it, your brand is just decoration.

  • I can articulate clearly why I started this business in one or two sentences
Not what you do, but why you do it. What problem in the world were you born to solve?
  • My core values are defined, written down, and genuinely drive how I run my business
Values that aren't written down are just intentions. Are yours guiding real decisions?
  • My purpose is visible in my marketing, and clients can sense what I stand for without me spelling it out
Read your homepage. Does your WHY come through, or does it read like everyone else's?
  • My work genuinely energises me. I'm building something meaningful, not just profitable
Sustainable brands are built on energy. If you're feeling flat, your WHY may need revisiting.
  • I can explain what makes my business different in a way that feels true, not just a list of features
Difference rooted in purpose is authentic. Difference that comes from features alone is fragile.
  • My brand has a clear, distinct tone of voice that sounds like a person, not a corporate template
Read three captions or emails aloud. Do they all sound like the same person? Do they sound like you?

Pillar 02 Who Your Dream Clients

The sharpest brands aren't for everyone. They're deeply right for someone. How well do you know yours?

  • I have a clear, specific picture of my ideal client, beyond demographics
Their values, fears, aspirations, and decision-making style matter more than age and location.
  • I know the specific problem my dream client wakes up thinking about, and my brand speaks to it
Does your homepage describe their situation so accurately they feel seen?
  • I regularly attract clients who are a genuine joy to work with
Wrong-fit people are often a sign that messaging is unclear, not that the offer is wrong.
  • I know where my ideal clients spend their time, and I show up there consistently
You don't need to be everywhere. You need to be exactly where they are, reliably.
  • My brand language reflects how my dream clients actually talk. I use their words, not industry jargon
Read your About page out loud. Does it sound like a person, or a brochure?
  • I have testimonials or case studies that reflect the kind of clients I want more of
Social proof attracts more of what it shows. Are your reviews and testimonials attracting the people you want more of, or someone else?

Pillar 03 What Your Offers and Services

Aligned offers feel natural to sell and irresistible to buy. Misaligned ones drain you and confuse your audience.

  • My offers are designed around what the people I serve actually need, not just what I want to provide
The best offers sit at the intersection of what you love to create and what the people you serve are hungry for.
  • I lead with the transformation, not the process or the deliverable
People don't buy the thing itself. They buy the outcome it creates for them. What's your before-and-after?
  • My pricing reflects the true value I deliver, and I feel confident standing behind it
Underpricing is often a brand problem, not a market problem. Does your price say "expert" or "unsure"?
  • My offer range is focused. I'm not trying to do everything for everyone.
A clear, curated offer builds trust. A sprawling list of options signals you haven't made choices yet.
  • My offers feel exciting and energising to talk about. I don't dread sales conversations.
If talking about what you offer feels awkward, there's usually a misalignment between offer and identity.
  • I have testimonials or results that back up the outcomes I promise, and I use them prominently
Claims without evidence are just opinions. Where is your proof visible on your sales pages?

Which of your services would you offer for free if you could afford to, and does that tell you something?
Pillar 04 When Marketing With Intention

Strategic visibility beats constant noise. Are you showing up in the right moments, or just showing up?

  • I have a consistent, sustainable marketing rhythm, not a cycle of feast, famine, and panic posting
Consistency builds trust. Sporadic bursts look like someone who isn't sure they're staying.
  • I focus on 1-2 platforms where my ideal clients actually are, not all of them
Being thinly spread across six platforms is not a strategy. Depth on two beats breadth on six.
  • My content addresses my client's full journey: awareness, consideration, and decision, not just promotion
Are you only posting when you have something to sell? Audiences need warming before they're ready to buy.
  • I know which marketing activities actually generate clients, and I protect time for those first
Track where your last five clients came from. The answer is often simpler than the effort you're currently investing.
  • My marketing feels aligned with my brand values. I'm not doing things just because I "should".
Forced marketing shows. If a channel feels wrong for you, it probably feels wrong to your audience too.
  • I actively ask happy clients for referrals or reviews. I don't just hope they happen.
Word of mouth is the most powerful marketing for small businesses. Are you making it easy for satisfied clients to recommend you?

If you removed every marketing activity that feels exhausting or inauthentic, what would be left, and is that enough?
Pillar 05 How Bringing It to Life

Brand strategy is worthless without execution. How well is your brand woven into everything you do?

  • My visual brand, including logo, colours, and typography, is consistent across every touchpoint
Check every place your brand shows up, online and off. Do they all look and feel like the same brand?
  • My brand photography and imagery is consistent and reflects who I want to attract
Stock photos that don't match your aesthetic create subtle distrust. Does your imagery feel like it genuinely belongs to you?
  • The experience I deliver to the people I serve reflects my brand values, from first contact through to delivery
Think about the booking confirmation, the onboarding, the delivery, the follow-up. Are any of those moments letting the brand down?
  • I have simple systems that help me show up consistently, without relying on motivation
Systems protect your brand from your bad days. What structures do you have in place?
  • I review my brand regularly and make intentional adjustments as I grow, not reactive changes born of panic
A brand that never evolves becomes stale. A brand that changes with every trend becomes invisible.
  • I feel genuinely confident and proud when I direct someone to my website or social profiles
If you hesitate before sharing your brand, your clients will hesitate before recommending you.
Your notes
Reflection prompt
If a new client experienced every single touchpoint of your brand this week, would the story they tell match the brand you believe you have?
Bonus 01 Presence Online and Discoverability

Being brilliant at what you do means nothing if people can't find you. How discoverable is your brand?

  • My website homepage clearly communicates what I do, who I help, and what to do next, within 5 seconds
Ask someone outside your industry to look at your homepage for 5 seconds. Ask them what you do. If they can't say it back clearly, it needs work.
  • My Google Business Profile is claimed, complete, and up to date
Even without a physical address, a complete Google Business Profile improves your search visibility significantly.
  • My website appears in search results when someone Googles my business name or core service
Try it now. If you can't find yourself on page one for your own name, there's a basic SEO problem to fix.
  • My website has a clear call to action on every key page, not just the contact page
Don't make people hunt for what to do next. Every page, and every place your brand lives, should have one clear next step.
Your notes
Reflection prompt
If a stranger searched for the problem you solve, not your name, would they find you?
Bonus 02 You Personal Brand Visibility

For a founder-led business, you are a core part of the brand. Are you showing up, or hiding behind your logo?

  • My face, name, and story are visible on my website. Clients know who they're hiring/buying from
People buy from people. An About page without a real photo and genuine story is a missed opportunity to build trust.
  • I show up consistently as a person in my content, not just as an account posting polished graphics
Founder-led content consistently outperforms brand content for small businesses. Your perspective is a differentiator.
  • My LinkedIn profile (or equivalent) reflects my current positioning and links to my business
The platform matters less than how well it represents you. Is your primary professional profile working as hard as it could?
  • I share my expertise, opinions, and point of view publicly, not just information
Information is everywhere. Your perspective is rare. Opinions build audiences; facts alone don't.
Your notes

If someone Googled your name today, would what they find make them want to hire you/buy from you, or make them hesitate?
